Knauf Usage in Construction

The Knauf separating walls have many features and advantages which this has made an increasing in using of these walls in modern buildings.

The Knauf is a type of drywall board that is produced by Knauf Company. The Knauf Company is active in construction industries for more than 80 years. This company was founded by Knauf brothers (Karl & Dr. Alfons) in 1932. Now the Knauf Company is one of the international companies in building industry. The Knauf separating ceilings and walls (divider) are galvanized integrated steel structures that the gypsum and cement drywall boards are screwed on them. The seam between boards is sealed by sealant putty and the flat surfaces are painted.

The advantages of using of Knauf internal separating walls are explained in the following:

This type of wall is about ten to fifteen times lighter in compared to traditional walls. So the earthquake impact on the building will become less by reducing the dead load of the building. If the building is destroyed, due to Knauf system lightness, the life-threatening for the residents will be significantly less. In addition to Knauf panels’ lightness, the flexible connectivity of panels to profiles is also to be made the earthquake force is reduced.

 In this way that the masters have an open space inside of the runners and are not screwed or riveted together, but the panels are screwed to both of them. The Knauf materials lightness makes it easily carried by workers and thus it increases the speed of project implementation. Due to having a proper packaging, the materials will not be damaged in the long transport distances. The being compact of Knauf materials than traditional materials also makes transport costs reduced. Another advantage of Knauf system is easy access to mechanical and electrical installations. If the installations pipes are burst, you can easily detect the damaged part and repair it. If the Knauf walls are also damaged by impact, the damaged part will easily be replaced and repaired. These two features will make the building’s useful life increased. If you need to change the usage, you can easily do this by Knauf system. You can use of Knauf method in reconstructing the old buildings. In areas where need to rapid construction, such as earthquake stricken areas, the Knauf system is a priority. The Knauf walls are painted after installation and there is no need for the gypsum mortar and hard plaster at this stage. This also makes saving and the speed of project implementation is increased. In order to get to a perfectly even surface, the seams location is puttied by help of sealant tape. The sealant tape makes the seam location flattened and prevents making track in the wall. The screws level that is slightly lower than the panels' level, is covered by putty and a flat surface is caused in the screws location. After implementing the wall, a mastic layer is implemented on it that it makes an even surface created to paint and reduce the color absorption. Finally, a perfectly flat surface with high precision and prepared for painting is obtained by using of Knauf wall. By using of Knauf walls, you can increase resistance to sound transmission and you can easily insulate the walls against heating by using of stone wool and polystyrene insulations. The insulations are placed between two gypsum panels. The Knauf gypsum panels system without structure also is used. In this case, the gypsum panels are installed as a coverage on the traditional walls by using of PERLFIX adhesive. Thus an empty space is created behind it to insulate and transmit the installations. Implementing the decorative and curving forms and increasing the building's infrastructure level is another advantages of Knauf system due to reducing thickness of the Knauf walls than traditional materials.

Knauf provides different panels that they are proper to current conditions according to walls performance. In the general conditions, the simple gypsum panels or RG (regular board) are used. The panels resistant to moisture are used for places such as kitchen and toilets. These boards are usable in places with less than 90% humidity. The fire resistant board panels that having glass fibers are recommended in places where require to be protected against fire that these panels resist against fire for up to 3 hours. The fire & moisture resistant board panels that also are resistant against humidity and fire are used for places such as utility wells.

In Knauf system, the cement armed boards (aqua panel) are used for exterior walls or walls that are in a constant connecting with water. Metal components: Knauf profiles are produced by forming to galvanized steel sheets in a cold way. Its main components include master (vertical structure) and runner (horizontal structure). In places where utilities and piping carry their weights to masters, a structure namely as backup is used to strengthen. The corner protective structure is used in external corners that protects the Knauf walls against impact and also makes triangle and accurate lips created. The screws, interruption seam structure, sealant tape and mastic and etc. is from other components of Knauf wall.
