CRG Architecture Group won the award for consecutive third time for focusing on idea generation in building of temporary residential houses in Mumbai, India.

This Architecture Group has offered a plan to build five thousands temporary residential space using 2500 containers in Dharavi slumming and populous neighborhood that these residential units are to be built at a height of over 400 meters.

The plan states: the units’ main structures are all covered with lightweight concrete blocks that they have a smooth and polished surface which will lead to three habitat rooms.

In fact, we could say these all units lie as portable lightweight cans and boxes on each other to a height of 400 meters and each these residential cans’ angle is different from the other. Hence these residential buildings in Mumbai are glaring with a tensile and arched structure that has given a particular and distinctive effect to space.

Also a lightweight glass and polyurethane sheet is put in a part of residential cans’ body that is proposed in this plan to control temperature and pressure of inside the units and also be as best solution for their easier and faster carrying as much as possible. Because as it mentioned before these residential units have designed as temporary and they implement.

However, the land’s irregular shape in that area has allowed this possibility to the designer to show its different and special design with complete freedom and doesn’t leave a place to provide an unpleasant architecture design with abnormal view.

We could freely think because of land’s nature and its geometry and made necessary decisions about building two residential towers by using of highest possible size. So because of having open and unlimited space in that area, finally it decided that these tower’s exterior view to be presented as circular geometric shape and as rotating and revolving.

An interesting point is that each residential boxes’ classic and standard position is such that made it possible for each floor and each unit has a different perspective and view.

Also each of these cans’ rotatory 90 degrees angles have provided a position in the building that the shadow space is to be more and wasted space look less. Hence we can say that the energy wasting will decrease as less as possible in these residential towers.

Finally it should be noted that these residential towers’ circular and rotatory design has caused the structure’s defensive system increase against any environmental risks and a serious damage caused by storms, earthquakes, floods or tornadoes doesn’t threaten these units.
